Au Rumani

Au Rumani is a highly successful hybrid developed in Andhra Pradesh, crossing the round, apple-shaped Rumani with the large, premium South Indian Mulgoa (also spelled Malgova). This cross was designed to overcome the medium size and lower pulp content of the native Rumani, resulting in a large, commercially efficient variety with outstanding fruit quality.

Physically, the Au Rumani is a large, eye-catching fruit, weighing between 350 and 450 grams. It retains the signature round, apple-like silhouette of its Rumani parent, but features a significantly larger mass and a bright, smooth golden-yellow skin. The pulp is a deep yellow-golden color, incredibly soft, juicy, and virtually fiberless, offering a highly satisfying eating experience. TSS is well-balanced at 17° to 19° Brix.

The season is mid-summer, peaking throughout May. Thanks to its high pulp recovery (consistently between 70% and 75%) and small stone, it is highly favored by both fresh fruit markets and the processing industry for making fresh mango juices. It has a moderate post-harvest shelf life of 5 to 7 days, requiring careful handling.
